Recovery Support
New Beginnings for men, or the HOPE Resource Center for women:

New Beginnings is a transitional housing program which provides a safe and supportive living environment to homeless males struggling with recovery issues. This program is specifically designed to serve 12 Kalamazoo County homeless males at a time who are attempting to regain stability and independence in their lives. Residents of the Transitional Housing program will reside in the facility for between six months and two years. Each resident will be assisted in developing a personal treatment plan with goals and objectives strongly emphasizing self sufficiency, continued abstinence from all chemical substances, and independence. New Beginnings is a zero tolerance facility. Each participant is expected to complete 90 meetings in 90 days, to have a sponsor within the first 30 days and to have assisted in developing a personal treatment plan upon their acceptance into the program. There are also two group therapy meetings and one individual therapy session per week. Individuals are expected to seek employment, go through job training, volunteer, or continue their education as a resident of New Beginnings. Each participant is expected to be responsible for their daily chores and upkeep of their living environment.

Women's Program
Designed to help women, aged 12 and above, who live in Kalamazoo or St. Joseph County and have an addiction problem. Services are provided to any woman, with priorities for women who are pregnant, have open Child Protective Services cases, or are IV drug users. The program staff provide case management services for these women throughout their early recovery process. Our efforts are to remove the barriers that threaten women's sobriety and clean time. We make referrals to community resources in the areas of housing, food, clothing, mental/physical/dental health, parenting, childcare, transportation and other services as needed for individual cases.
We facilitate Support Group Meetings each week. These meetings help the women explore various topics, ranging from spousal/child abuse prevention to HIV/AIDS education and prevention. The purpose of these meetings is to raise self-esteem, self-worth and self-confidence while supporting the recovery process. We provide on-site childcare and transportation as needed.
